OSLO, SHMOSLO!   WITH "FRIENDS" LIKE THESE, WHO NEEDS "PEACE"?

I can hold back no longer...  I decided that the time had come to make a website about what's really going on here in Israel.  Especially when it comes to Israeli politics. Ignore the BBC, take no notice of CNN. Laugh at the New York Post! Here you are getting it straight from real people who understand what's going on in Israel.

This page was going to deal mostly with thorny issues that affect modern Israel, and some of the difficult questions that faces anybody wanting to live here.  The Oslo "Peace Process", Conscription and the role of the IDF in society, Social Cohension, and much, much, more. Our editorial policy is not like not Haaretz, Maariv, The Jerusalem Post, or the Israel Broadcasting Authority. ISRAELWORLD will not follow anybody's "party line".

But because of the intifada (arabic word apparently meaning "Yasser's pointless armed struggle in which everybody loses out when he could have had it all for free at Camp David, the idiot!"), the subject matter has been changed to reflect this new reality of daily life in Israel. Essentially, in these times, you feel lucky to still be alive at the end of each day, and wonder how many of your friends will be dead by this time tomorrow. It's no exaggeration - colleagues at my office, and friends who work elsewhere in Jerusalem have lost relatives, friends and workmates in the last year, and when we hear that the palestinians are the "victims", nobody knows whether to laugh or cry! When you reach that point, you have to try to laugh, and this site will attempt to inform you in an entertaining way, even if most of the humour is very dark. But don't surf away - there will be lighter moments too. Some of the pages here are adapted from an earlier site of the same name, but now the look and feel has been harmonised, and the material updated. New material will hopefully be added frequently.

A word of caution: Israelis (especially on the political "left") talk a lot about "incitement". This site is just legitimate fair comment.  If anybody is offended, they're probably in politics or corrupt big business. Please check your prejudices at the door before entering...

Whatever you think, I hope that you'll be entertained along the way.

Feel free to send us feedback, and tell us what you like or hate about this site - but please keep it polite, okay? We've had some disgusting anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist hatemail, but that only shows that the pro-arab lobby is usually incapable of making a rational case against an intelligent argument. We'll always listen to a good, reasoned, debate - but be nice.
