How
DO we deal with Chametz?
Eating
Chametz during Pesach means "spiritual death" - you are cut off from
the Jewish people, and that's a serious prospect for your Neshamah,
so you want to get rid of that Chametz before it comes to burning time!
The
best way to get rid of Chametz is to eat it - before
Pesach (yum, yum!). Failing that, you might have to throw some
away, and some things that you don't want to burn or destroy, could
be sold to a non-Jew (the contract is tricky if it is to be legally
valid, so don't try this one at home, folks!) Some people don't
like to sell Chametz, in case they get the sale wrong, in which case
all that lovely death-trap Chametz will be theirs when it's forbidden.
Ask a reliable rabbi, not the man at the pub!
Anything
which cannot be sold must be disposed of or destroyed, usually by burning.
You make a declaration at the time of burning that if you have forgotten
any Chametz, it is legally like the ownerless dust of the Earth, and
not your problem...
This
gentleman (below) has perhaps taken his obligation just a bit too
seriously...!
Notice:
Jacobs World does NOTclaim to have any Halachic Authority, so
if in doubt, don't do what we say - because we really are only
joking!
